Living by the sea enhances the importance for youngsters to learn to swim for safety above all else.  From the age of 18 months we teach children water confidence, basic stroke technique and water skills progressing onto recognised stroke techniques, personal survival skills and water fitness.

As an Affliaed Swim England Swim School member we follow the Swim England's Learn to Swim Framework Levels 1-7 & Rookie Lifeguard ProgrammeEach of the Swim England Learn to Swim Award Stages 1-7 has a list of clear outcomes that need to be completed in order to gain each award. Awards are worked towards & each child will be presented with a certificate & badge to celebrate their achievements at the end of each term.

All children are organised into the following ability groups:

Stage 1

(Beginners)

Tadpoles - Your child works towards developing basic movement skills, water confidence and safety awareness. Swimmers are able to use aids e.g. arm bands and floats to help complete this stage.

Stage 2

(Beginners)

Minnows - swimmers will develop safe entries to the water and will continue to practice floating, travel and rotation in the water. Swimmers can still use aids e.g. arm bands and floats to help complete this stage.

Stage 3

(Improvers)

Otterspupils work towards being able to swim 10m on their front and back and will be able to swim underwater to collect objects from the bottom of the pool. Rotation skills and water safety knowledge will also be developed.

Stage 4

(Improvers)

Sealsswimmers will focus on refining kicking techniques for all four strokes and develop a better understanding of buoyancy.

Stage 5

(Intermediate)

Dolphinsswimmers will focus on swimming all four strokes to the Swim England expected standards. Swimmers will also develop skills in sculling, treading water and complete rotation.

Stage 6

(Advanced)

Sharkspupils will focus on developing effective swimming skills including co-ordinated breathing, water safety and an understanding of how to prepare for exercise.

Stage 7

(Advanced)

Sharks - swimmers will develop quality stroke technique whilst swimming up to 100m.

Rookie Lifeguard Awards

Bronze, Silver & Gold Levels 1-3

The Rookie Lifeguard Awards are for your children if they are budding lifeguards.  Developed by the Royal Lifesaving Society UK in conjunction with Swim England, the Rookie Lifeguard Awards offer parents the comfort of knowing their children are aware of the dangers of swimming in open water.

The Bronze, Silver and Gold stage awards ensure children have a solid safety education, and have learned rescue and resuscitation techniques.

Each stage of the Rookie Lifeguard Awards is sub-divided into three levels and each stage runs roughly for eight to 10 weeks.

Lessons are fun as well as constructive to enhance your child's learning experience!
