McKendrick House

Eastbourne

McKendrick House is a 17 bed Intensively Supported Residential Centre accommodating previously homeless young people aged 16-25. We offer a holistic support package and actively encourage residents into education, training, employment or voluntary work. Whilst living with us residents will gain many essential life skills and social skills empowering them to move successfully into semi-independent or fully independent accommodation.

Grove House

Hailsham

Grove House provides accommodation for 7 young people aged 16-25 year old from the Wealden Area. Like McKendrick House in Eastbourne, we offer a high level of staff support here and young people are signposted to other services to address specific needs if necessary. At the end of a successful stay at Grove House residents are usually recommended to move to our Stepping Stone project (see below). We have many former residents who regularly keep in contact with us and keep us updated with their life journey

Barnabas House

Eastbourne

Barnabas House is our 'move on' project, providing accommodation for 8 young people aged 16-25. Most of our residents here will move here as a progression from McKendrick House. It is a step towards independent living and staff support is less intensive. We hope that after a successful period of time living at Barnabas House, young people will be supported into their own property, whether council owned or private rented.

Stepping Stone

Hailsham

The Stepping Stone project is a 3 bedroom house in Hailsham, where residents can take the next step to fully independent living. It is the preferred 'move-on' from Grove House, and offers minimal staff support to enable young people to begin managing life on their own initiative. At the end of their time at Grove House, residents are given staff support to access private rented or local authority housing.

Charlie's Flats

Eastbourne

Charlie's Flats is a partnership project between East Sussex County Council (Care Leavers Service) and Eastbourne & Wealden YMCA, which opened in 2013. The project is used to house under 18s who have previously been accommodated in Social Services care. Young people living there are supported by the YMCA staff in conjunction with their Personal Advisors from the care leavers team.

The accommodation (situated above Charlies Youth Access Centre) is made up of 3 bedrooms (one of which is en-suite), a communal living space and bathroom and a good sized kitchen. It has been recently refurbished, and provides a high standard, 'homely' place to live. A great benefit of its location is that residents are able to access the facilities of Charlies Youth Access Centre during opening times.

Empty Homes

Eastbourne

We are working in partnership with YMCA Downs Link Group in order to increase the housing options we are able to offer the young people living in Eastbourne. These units will present a badly needed alternative for low risk homeless young people and also help to create space in our more intensively supported housing projects for those that need them.

Eastbourne and Wealden YMCA is offering newly refurbished, fully furnished accommodation in a shared house (communal kitchen and bathroom facilities). We are able to do this by working closely with our partner agencies - East Sussex County Council Leaving Care Service, and Eastbourne Borough Council. Through this project we hope to offer longer term housing options than are currently available.
